Our Story
Catering since 2012
What started as a small Derby kitchen has grown into one of the region’s most trusted caterers but our values have never changed.

From Derby, For The Midlands
A passion for good food, shared
Sadlergates Catering launched in 2012 in Derby city centre, with a simple focus: bringing genuinely high-quality food to local events. With a lot of hard work and dedication, we became one of the most prominent caterers in Derby.
That success took us to Nottingham, Sheffield and Leicester. Today our team caters thousands of events a year. From boardroom lunches to weddings! We still pride ourselves on being a catering service you can depend on.

THE LONGER VERSION
Fourteen years, one kitchen, six thousand events a year
The business started in Derby in 2012 and still caters for Derby families and offices who ordered in those first years. The kitchen moved to Hucknall as we outgrew the first one, and it has stayed there: a single production site on Castle Industrial Park, inspected by Ashfield District Council, who gave it five out of five in May 2025.
Why one kitchen and not four
Four kitchens would be easier to sell and harder to run well. One means the same people cook the same food to the same standard whether it is going four miles or thirty, and it means a single hygiene rating that belongs to the place your food is actually made rather than an average across sites you will never see.
It also sets a real limit, which is the part most caterers leave out. Everything has to leave one building, so what we can promise at distance is a cold buffet in an insulated box, not a team standing over a hot service at the far end of the county. We would rather publish that than discover it with you on the day.
What has changed and what has not
The menus have grown: nine numbered buffets, four hot menus, five grazing boards, canapés, a Christmas range, and the prices for all of them are published on the page on request. The ordering moved online for anything delivered.
What has not changed is the shape of the work. Most of what we do is unglamorous and repeated: the Tuesday team meeting, the training day, the christening at the church hall, the wake at two days' notice. Around six thousand events a year, and the overwhelming majority of them are somebody's ordinary Wednesday rather than anybody's big day.
Who we work with
A good share of the work arrives through other people, venues that need a caterer they can rely on, funeral directors arranging a wake, suppliers we have used for years. If you run somewhere that needs catering, or you make something we ought to be buying, thebrand partnerships pageis the place to start that conversation.
The reviews
4.9 out of 5 from 210 Google reviews across our four profiles: Nottingham 126, Derby 52, Sheffield 27 and Leicester 5, counted in August 2026 rather than rounded up. Real reviews from named customers sit on the area pages they belong to, and where a town has none of its own we say so rather than borrowing one from somewhere else.
